Film Series

This semester's film series is themed around "Women and Revolution," and focuses on the stories of women from the around the world living through important moments in history.

Each film will be shown in Room 114 in the Yancey Center at One Arsenal Place at 7:00PM.

These events are only open to the CSU community - students, faculty, and staff.

A Special Day, 19 September at 7:00PM
Two neighbors - a persecuted journalist and a resigned housewife - meet during Hitler's visit to Italy in May 1938.

Lucia, 17 October at 7:00PM
This film traces episodes in the lives of three Cuban women, each named Lucia, from three different historical periods: the Cuban war of independence with Spain, the 1930s, and the 1960s.

Persepolis, 14 November at 7:00PM
A precocious and outspoken Iranian girl grows up during the Islamic Revolution in this award-winning film based on an autobiographical graphic novel.

The self-styled "Islamic State" has caused terror and turmoil in the Middle East for years. But where did they come from? What do they believe? Why are they a threat?

On October 13th, Columbus State University students and professors will be reading and discussing Joby Warrick's 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning book on the origins and rise of ISIS.

Senior Seminar Presentations

This semester's senior seminar students have taken a course on the theme of "The Written Traditions of the Middle East." They will be making brief presentations on their capstone projects on Tuesday, 5 December 2017 at 10AM in Room 114 of the Yancey Center at One Arsenal Place. Convocation credit is available, and everyone is welcome to attend the presentations.
