Terry College of Business

Georgia’s flagship business school, founded in 1912

Conduct in the Classroom

Teaching Assistants (TAs) are expected to adhere to all general rules and especially the following rules in conducting their classes:

  • Each teaching assistant (TA) will meet the class on a regular and continuous basis. In the event it is necessary to be absent from the class, it is the TA's responsibility to make satisfactory arrangements so that the students are not penalized by the absence and to obtain approval from the department for suitable arrangements for the class.
  • Final examinations will be administered and will be held at the time designated in the "Schedule of Classes" bulletin. Any deviations from this schedule will require prior approval of the department head, the associate dean of the Terry College of Business, and the vice president for Academic Affairs.
  • Each TA will have the responsibility of preparing adequate examinations for the assigned class; will participate in the preparation of any departmental examinations appropriate to the class; will furnish the department with a copy of all examinations (if required by the department); and furnish the department with a copy of the grade roll showing the grades assigned.
  • Students enrolled in the class are expected to attend regularly. A student who incurs an excessive number of absences may be dismissed from the class at the discretion of the TA. Policies regarding withdrawal from a course ("W" or "WF") may be found in the University of Georgia Graduate School Bulletin.
  • A student may be assigned an "I" (Incomplete) provided the student was doing satisfactory work, but for non-academic reasons beyond the student's control, was unable to meet the full requirements of the course. An "I" not removed by the end of three (3) semesters automatically becomes an "F". A repeat of a course does not remove an "I". It is the responsibility of the TA to insure that the "I" is removed from the student's record while the TA is at the UGA.
  • The TA's duties shall be completed for the semester when the final grades are turned in.
