Athens musical acts featured in 'Terry Tunes' lunchtime concerts at UGA's Herty Field

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business kicks off its "Terry Tunes" spring concert series on Friday, March 23, with a free outdoor concert by Venice is Sinking. Three more local acts will follow over the next month.

The lunchtime concerts, held from noon to 1 pm at Herty Field on UGA's historic North Campus, will be organized and promoted by students in UGA's Music Business Program. In keeping with the program's emphasis on introducing students to the ins and outs of the music industry, the spring series includes some of Athens' most promising performers.

Venice is Sinking will play an acoustic set of the band's orchestral pop songs on March 23. Bain Mattox and Tin Cup Prophette will perform March 30. From the Hodgson School of Music, the UGA Salsa Band returns to the Terry Tunes series on April 20. And the spring series culminates April 27 with a solo performance by jazz guitarist Trey Wright, who's also a co-founder and manager of the Athens jazz quartet Squat.

The concert location, Herty Field, is located between Moore College and the law school on North Campus near downtown. In the event of inclement weather, the scheduled concert will be canceled.

The University of Georgia's Music Business Program was inaugurated in January 2006 as an interdisciplinary certificate program, jointly organized and operated by the Terry College of Business and the Hodgson School of Music. Students take seven classes, a mix of basic business and music courses, including the Music Business I and II courses designed by co-directors Bruce Burch and Steve Dancz.

In addition to guest lectures from prominent figures in the music industry, students gain real-world music industry experience through internships with record labels, promoters, studios and other companies. Students are also asked to find local artists with potential and promote them through their student-run record labels.
