Bonbright Electric and Natural Gas Conference

Letter from the Director of the Bonbright Center

The Center is dedicated to continuing the work of Professor James C. Bonbright (1891–1985), a leading advocate of rate of return regulation who influenced the Public Utility Holding Company Act (1935) and Hope Natural Gas decision (1944).

He was Professor of Economics and Political Science at Columbia University and author of such classics as Valuation of Capital and Principles of Public Utility Rates (1961). His work continues to influence regulatory policy throughout the world.

The Bonbright Center was established in 1992 to further the understanding of regulatory, accounting, economic, finance and management policy. The Center conducts seminars and conferences for professionals in the electric and natural gas industries. The Center does not advocate specific policies or conduct proprietary research. We purposely invite moderators and speakers with diverse interests and backgrounds.

Bonbright Center events cover a wide range of subjects, including traditional financial and pricing issues, as well as emerging environmental and regulatory policy. We are dedicated to the proposition that sound public policy is rarely formed in a vacuum. Our seminars, conferences and related events are designed to encourage an open but nonadversarial exchange of viewpoints and perspectives. A lively and informative dialogue is usually the end result of these collective efforts.

Those who attend Bonbright Center events are actively involved in regulatory policy related to the electric and natural gas industries, including:

  • Electric and Natural Gas Executives and Managers
  • Public Utility Commissioners and Staff
  • Accountants, Attorneys and Consultants
  • Financial Analysts and Investment Bankers
  • Consumer and Environmental Activists
  • Academicians and other Business Professionals

CEU and CLE credit is generally available upon request.
