Our alumni probably think of the Terry College as an institution where all of the educational opportunities lead to a degree. The truth is we serve the business community in a variety of ways, including non-degree executive education.
  • September 2011
It’s been ages since the Terry College was able to recruit such a large and distinguished group of faculty in back-to-back years. Our students will reap the benefits.
  • July 2011
The graduates of which Top 50 MBA program experienced the largest salary growth over a 20-year span? BusinessWeek has the answer, and it’s worth a closer look.
  • May 2011
Spring and the end of the school year are always filled with happy occasions: the Alumni Awards and Gala, Terry Honors Day, and, soon, graduation will be upon us.
  • March 2011
We need your help. This year Jill Walton transitioned from her role in alumni relations to one where she will help undergraduates begin their careers. Her success in this new role depends on you.
  • January 2011
In mid-November, Bloomberg BusinessWeek made public its latest ranking of the “ Best B-Schools” for 2010. The ranking is based on a survey of the companies that hire MBAs and students who just graduated from the top MBA programs. What I was most encouraged by were our outstanding results in the employer poll.
  • November 2010
Homecoming was another reminder that the vast size of our alumni network is a major element of the value statement that we represent to current and prospective students.
  • September 2010
This year, we have made great progress increasing the number and enhancing the overall quality and expertise of the faculty at the Terry College. Every academic department in the college conducted at least one – and in several cases multiple – national searches for new faculty.
  • July 2010
Between 2007 and 2009, U.S. households lost a knee-buckling $14 trillion in wealth they had accumulated over the course of their lives. Given those unprecedented levels of wealth destruction, it should come as no surprise that charitable giving also took a hit across the country, dropping 3.6 percent in 2009. Yet alumni of the Terry College bucked the national trend and proved yet again their willingness to help in good times and bad.
  • May 2010
With the end of spring semester, the buzz of campus activity in Athens becomes quieter and the parking becomes easier. By way of comparison, the programs we deliver to our alumni and the business community will continue at their usual, fast pace.
  • March 2010
The timing of this newsletter comes at a point when state funding and the reality of additional budget cuts and tuition increases are on the minds of a lot of people at UGA. I’ll take this opportunity to address some of those concerns and what we’re fighting to preserve.
  • January 2010
On Jan. 28, we will kick off the Atlanta Leadership Symposium, a six-part executive program developed and delivered in partnership with Michigan’s Ross School of Business. It’s truly one of our strongest statements yet about our commitment to your lifelong learning.
  • November 2009
I’ve often heard from students and alumni that they would like a more personal recognition of their graduation than can be accommodated at UGA’s commencement exercises. We’re now able to do that with the announcement of our Terry Graduation Convocation, which we’ll host next spring.
  • September 2009
A student recently asked me how they can help the college achieve its vision of national prominence. That question is indicative of the attitude that I see in so many of our faculty, staff, alumni and friends. Everyone knows we have set our sights high at a time when resources are scarce. I am grateful that so many people among all of our constituencies want to help.
  • July 2009
Mark “Dill” Driscoll has accepted my offer to become the college’s first Entrepreneur-in-Residence. He will work with our faculty to expand and improve our entrepreneurship program and help create opportunities for Terry students who want to become entrepreneurs themselves.
  • May 2009
The end of May is a time of transition on campus, as we wrap up the academic year, bid farewell to another graduating class and prepare to welcome a new class of freshmen, transfers and graduate students. But the familiarity of that routine was thrown off kilter by the tragedy that preceded the end of spring semester. With the semester now over, we can begin to put some distance between ourselves and the memory of that tragic event.
  • March 2009
These are the most challenging times many of us have ever experienced. It has caused students to question what the future holds. But there are opportunities for the young people who react smartly to the changes in the marketplace.
  • January 2009
Rich Daniels, who came to Terry as founding director of the Executive MBA program, will have responsibility for all formats of our MBA, including the Full-Time MBA in Athens, effective Jan. 1. He succeeds Peter Shedd, who is retiring.
  • November 2008
We want our students to be actively engaged in a learning community. And to help achieve this goal our faculty are working with our alumni and the business community to extend learning beyond the traditional classroom.
  • September 2008
As students begin fall semester classes, I’m reminded that every year brings new opportunities and challenges, and this year is no exception. We have plans to continue our progress, even as we deal with a very challenging fiscal year for the state.
  • July 2008
July marks my one-year anniversary as dean of the Terry College. In that time, we’ve gone through reaccreditation, dealt with the retirement of several senior administrators and jumped head first into several new initiatives for students and alumni.
  • May 2008
The college’s Alumni Awards and Gala provides an elegant setting appropriate for recognizing the alumni who have excelled in their careers while remaining loyal to Terry and their university. This year, we will recognize four outstanding individuals.
  • March 2008
With this issue of Terry FYI, we’re introducing a new way for us to communicate with Terry alumni. We want to provide you with news of interest in a timelier manner than what we can deliver twice a year through the alumni magazine. That’s where Terry FYI comes in.
