Sigma Phi Omega seeks to promote scholarship, professionalism, friendship, and services to older persons, and to recognize exemplary attainment in gerontology/aging studies and related fields.

The Institute and its students are involved in a plethora of community outreach activities, including the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program.

Led by the Institute for over 20 years, the conference promotes student professional development, sharing of important work, and networking.

Georgia's Online Gerontology Training & Resources Portal

The Institute and its partners developed a website that provides access to the latest resources and training about best practices in gerontology and geriatrics.

End-of-Life Care

The Institute’s Associate Director, Dr. Anne Glass, is working to improve end-of-life and palliative care in Georgia through research and information dissemination.

Student Mentoring Conference in Gerontology & Geriatrics

We invite students and faculty ---including new students and alumni --- to participate in the 22nd Annual Southeastern Student Mentoring Conference in Gerontology and Geriatrics in Atlanta, GA on March 30-31, 2012. For over two decades, this conference has sought to provide students with practical expereinces associated with academic and applied gerontology. The conference program typically includes faculty and student keynote addresses as well as special panels, but the heart of the conference is student poster presentations and discussion sessions, which represent a key learning experience for participating students.We are currently accepting 2012 abstract submissions and conference registration.
