Computer Systems Administration Option (1576)1 yr certificate

What is it?

The Computer Systems Administration Certificate option is designed to prepare students to become support specialists in both a hardware/software and network environment. Areas of emphasis will be on server configuration, maintaining the server operating system, file structure and directory services as well as network concepts such as Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) support.

Upon completion of the appropriate courses, the student may elect to take the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) exams* leading to the Server Administrator certification.. Other professional certifications attainable upon completion of the appropriate courses would include A+, Network+ and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS). While every effort is made to assist the student in preparing for these exams, no guarantee is made that he/she will successfully pass the exams.

The student must earn a minimum grade of “C” in CISM 2201 before enrolling in any networking courses. Exceptions are made for students with exceptional computer experience and are made by the director of the program as needed. Applicants having passed any of the MCTS exams prior to taking the equal course can be exempted from that course. However, any MCSE 4.0 exams/courses will NOT transfer in to the program.

The courses in the program are subject to change in order to be responsive to the changing Information Technology demands of the workforce.

Students who complete this certificate may elect to take the necessary courses to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in the Computer Systems Administration AAS (3357).
