CAES Intranet for Faculty & Staff

Highlights:

Information from Dean Angle

July 16 , 2010 — (Content from Angle's Update) For the first time in nearly 18 months, June tax revenue for the State of Georgia was up – about 3.8% compared to June of 2009. J. Scott Angle, CAES Dean This is the first glimmer of hope we have seen that the economy may be turning around. However, we do not want to get too excited as this just as readily could have been an aberration and we are still deep in the woods. Indeed, some legislators are telling me that the economy has not turned around and that more budget cuts might be possible. Let's hope they are wrong. However, we will continue to plan very conservatively for the remainder of the year. This means there will not be much hiring over this period of time. Please watch both July and August revenue figures. If we can string three good months together, everyone, including those in Atlanta, will feel much more comfortable that we have rounded the corner.

Despite the poor economy, the college continues to excel. We ranked # 1 again in fund raising and development for all colleges. Contracts and grants are also holding their own (from last year's record year) despite the fact that we have reduced faculty numbers. CAES student numbers continue to increase.

We are thinking about a brighter future and making plans to restore lost funding. Of course, this all depends upon the rate of recovery for the economy.
