CHEMICAL TECHNICIAN

Chemical laboratory technicians work under the supervision of chemists and chemical engineers to develop, analyze, and test new products and materials.

Areas of Specialization:

  • Chemical Laboratory Technicians Perfumers
  • Water Purification Chemists

Work Activities:

  • Set up and monitor laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Prepare chemical solutions
  • Record instrument readings and the results of experiments
  • Conduct tests and analyze the chemical content of substances
  • Devise or modify processes and improve production methods
  • Help train operators in processing techniques
  • Test raw materials or products to ensure they meetspecifications

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Knowledge of chemical substances, compounds, and formulas
  • Operate laboratory and testing equipment
  • Computer operation
  • Good verbal, communication and mathematics skills
  • Ability to perceive objects in three-dimensional form
  • Good motor coordination and manual/finger dexterity
  • Good vision and color discrimination

  • Average entry wage is approximately $17,160 per year in Georgia
