Darton College Policies and Procedures

Classification of Students

At the beginning of each semester, students are classified as follows: Learning Support, freshman, sophomore, provisional, JET, transient, irregular, and audit. All students who are required to take any Learning Support courses because of their COMPASS or comparable college placement scores are classified Learning Support. Students who have exempted or completed all Learning Support requirements but have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of college credit are classified as freshmen. To be admitted to sophomore standing, a student must have successfully completed 30 semester hours of college credit. Credit for physical education is not considered when determining freshman or sophomore standing. JET students are those jointly enrolled in high school and college. Transient students are visitors to the campus with the intent of transferring the courses taken back to their home institutions. Irregular students are those who wish to enroll in credit courses for credit but who do not seek a degree. Auditors are those who wish to enroll in courses but do not seek credit.
