1980’s

Angie Stokes-Barber ('82) - Currently the Director of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital’s Network of Trust, a national award-winning community outreach program for pregnant and parenting teens, Angie lives in Albany. She has three children – all successfully pursuing artistic endeavors. Angie was also the keynote speaker at Darton’s 2010 Fall Convocation where she spoke of “Remaining Thankful and Optimistic in Trying Times,” and is a recent winner of the Woman of Worth Award.

Soraya Callendar Kimbrel (’83) graduated with an A.A. degree and then went on to receive a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern University in the fall of ’83. Soraya currently lives in Leesburg, GA and is employed by Darton College as the Director of Stepping Stones Child Care Resource & Referral of Southwest Georgia.

Barbara Jordan McLendon (’83), attended Albany Junior College and then transferred to Georgia Southwestern where she obtained a Bachelor of Science (’85), a M. Ed. (’87), and a Master of Science (’90). Barbara currently lives in Leary, GA with husband Bob McLendon. Barbara and Bob have been married for 34 years. She is employed by Darton College as Associate Professor of Mathematics. Barbara has been employed by the college for 17 years.

Janet Miller (’84), graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Office Administration/Secretarial Science. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Valdosta State University (’97). Janet currently resides in Albany and is employed by Allied Waste Services as an Accountant.

Chris Gay ('85) and his skydive team, Clean Air, won the gold medal at the World Championships on August 6 in Russia. Gay, who has been a member of the U.S. Parachute Team since 2000, has also been the dive engineer for the world’s largest canopy formation. He has broken 14 world records and is a six-time gold medalist at the World Championships. He lives near Orlando and trains at Skydive Sebastian, a jump school and training facility on the East Coast of Florida.
