Teacher education

Undergraduate students seeking admission to the teacher education program in the College of Education at CSU should begin the process during their sophomore year of study. Post-baccalaureate students seeking admission should begin the process during their first semester of study. Appropriate forms can be obtained in the Office of Student Advising and Field Experiences (SAFE) (Jordan Hall, Room 107).

Admission to the Teacher Education program requires completion of all of the following:

Undergraduate

Completion of EDUC 2130 (or approved equivalent) with a grade of C or better.
Completion of 45 earned semester hours in the core with a cumulative GPA or 2.5 or better and an institutional GPA of 2.75 or better on total transcripts.
Good academic standing during the semester of application.
Satisfactory performance on the Regents' Test.
Satisfactory performance on the GACE I examination with a composite score of 526 or an exemption based upon satisfactory scores on the SAT, ACT or GRE tests.
Completion of essay.
Completed background check form to ensure no criminal record or discharge from the armed services that would prevent recommendation for teacher certification.

Post-baccalaureate

Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on all work attempted or an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 during junior-senior years.
Good academic standing during the semester of application.
Satisfactory performance on the GACE I examination with a composite score of 526 or an exemption based upon satisfactory scores on the SAT, ACT or GRE tests
Completion of essay.
Completed background check form to ensure no criminal record or discharge from the armed services that would prevent recommendation for teacher certification.
