CSU Names Tom Hackett as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

COLUMBUS, Ga. Tom Hackett, interim provost and vice president of academic affairs at Columbus State University for the past year and a half, has been named to the position permanently, CSU President Tim Mescon announced Tuesday.

“It is with the greatest of pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Tom Hackett as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Columbus State University,” Mescon said in an email to campus Tuesday evening. “In this capacity, Dr. Hackett serves as the senior Vice President on the President’s staff.”

Hackett is a seasoned administrator and a longtime member of the CSU team, having served as a faculty member, chairperson of the Department of Counseling, Educational Leadership, and Professional Studies in CSU's College of Education and Health Professions, as well as the director of CSU's Graduate School. He played a key role in designing and launching Columbus State's first doctoral degree program. He is both an alumnus of Columbus State University and a parent of a CSU student.

Visitation Day Coincides with Climax of CSU Homecoming 2012

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Prospective students and their families coming to Columbus State University for the next Visitation Day on Saturday, Feb. 25 will arrive at the culmination of a week's worth of Homecoming 2012 activities geared to current students.

That Saturday will be busier than usual, thanks to the addition of a first-ever morning homecoming parade through main campus, along with afternoon tailgating, basketball, baseball and softball.

Suspect Arrested in Campus Incidents

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Quick thinking by a female Columbus State University student resulted in the sexual battery arrest Thursday of a male non-student.

Dominic James Vidal, 25, was taken into custody on two counts of sexual battery and held at Muscogee County Jail as a suspect in two CSU main campus attacks – one that occurred Thursday and another on Feb. 1.
