Library Regulations

The policies and regulations of the Simon Schwob Memorial Library have been established to ensure maximum access to library materials and to provide a study facility for all library patrons. All users of the library are urged to abide by the regulations and to be considerate of other library users.

  1. An electronic security system is in use at the library in order to prevent unauthorized borrowing. Patrons entering and exiting the library must pass through the security system. The system will sound an alarm if materials being taken through the system have not been properly checked out. Patrons setting off the alarm should go to the Circulation Desk so that the item triggering the alarm may be identified.
  2. Stealing, altering, or defacing library materials is punishable by 2 to 10 years imprisonment (State of Georgia Code Section 20 5 52).
  3. Food and drink are permitted in certain areas of the library. See the complete Food, Drink, and Tobacco Policy.
  4. No tobacco or alcohol is permitted in the library.
  5. Patrons are asked to be considerate of others utilizing the library. Please refrain from loud noise, disorderly conduct, or other behavior disturbing to other library users.
  6. Children under age 13 must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times.
  7. Library users are requested to return materials to the designated shelves and shelving carts when they have finished using them, as someone else may need these items. Reference books, bound and unbound periodicals, and periodical indexes should not be removed from their respective areas. If materials are photocopied, they should be returned to the appropriate areas after photocopying.
  8. Library patrons are asked to use care in the handling of materials. Keep them dry and away from extremes of heat and cold; be careful when photocopying so that spines are not broken or other damage done; make notes on scratch pads, not in books; keep materials out of the reach of pets and small children; and be sure that borrowed items are returned on time so that others may use them. Replacing damaged or lost materials is costly, both for the library and the patron.
