Itinerary Call for Abstracts

The University of Georgia Center for Global Health with support from the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute will host its fourth annual Global Health Symposium on September 7-8 2011 at the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences on south campus (Sept 7) and the Tate Student Center Re ception Hall (Sept 8). Global health research is on-going across the UGA campus and interest continues to grow. The two-day symposium will bring health experts from the United States and Israel to the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Ga., to exchange information about the globalization of health care and the importance of seeking common solutions to our common health problems.

University of Haifa speakers and lecturerers will include professors, Department Head of the School of Public Health, Dean of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Studies, and University Rector Dr. David Faraggi. In addition, the Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast will present. The Keynote speech will be given by Dr. Kavita Pandit, Associate Provost for International Education at UGA.  University of Georgia speakers will include professors from various departments within the College of Public Health. Topics of discussion include health care reform in the United States and Israel, emergency preparedness, health and culture, traffic safety, evidence-based medicine, and the global burden of over-nutrition.

This year’s event is collaboration of the Center for Global Health at the University of Georgia College of Public Health, and the University of Haifa, Israel.

The event has been made possible by the generous support of UGA alumni Dr. Harold S. and Milly Pincus Solomon, as well as Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast – Atlanta. Partners include UGA Biomedical and Health Sciences InstituteOffice of International Education at UGAAmerican-Israel Chamber of CommerceAthens Chapter of Hadassah, and Hillel at UGA.
