Foundation Incorporated to Aid KJC

The Kennesaw Junior College Foundation, designed to provide supplementary financial support to the college from the community, was formally incorporated Wednesday afternoon. Plans were initiated for a fund-raising drive in early fall.

The articles of incorporation were presented to the foundation's 23-member board of trustees, which held it's organizational meeting in April.

Robert T. Garrison of Marietta, chairman of the board, accepted the charter from attorney G. Conley Ingram, also a board member who explained that the articles had been certified by the Georgia Secretary of State, Ben Fortson, after having been legally approved in Cobb County.

Dr. Horace W. Sturgis, president of the college, hailed the occasion as "one of the most significant events in the development of our college," and pointed out that the foundation "will give the additional support needed for the continued growth of the college."

Sturgis said such foundations have contributed greatly to the growth of such institutions as the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State College and other public and private colleges and universities.

At Wednesday's meeting, Garrison appointed a fundraising committee to conduct a campaign this fall to support the college. Named to the committee were board members Sidney Clotfelter, chairman; Howard Ector, Campbell Dasher and Ed Massey.

The board of trustees includes leading business and professional men from five counties-Cobb, Fulton, Bartow, Cherokee and Paulding-which provide most of Kennesaw's students.
