The “Greed is Good” Fellowship Writing Workshops are part of a faculty-driven program supported by the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute aimed at providing UGA graduate students and postdoctoral associates with the tools necessary to seek their own research and fellowship funding.
The workshop series has been designed to provide information about which career development mechanisms are available to both graduate student and postdoctoral associates through agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, USDA and National Science Foundation, and to also provide a forum for participants to interact with and receive feedback from UGA faculty with experience reviewing federal grant and fellowship applications.
Please contact Margie Lee at mdlee@uga.edu with any questions about this workshop series.

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
By appointment
So you’ve already submitted a fellowship that wasn’t funded, but how do you improve your score for a resubmission? Please contact mdlee@uga.edu to schedule an appointment.
Phase 3 – “Greed is Good: Strengthen your fellowship proposal with a mock review”
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, April 18, 2011
Your mentor will rigorously review your fellowship proposal’s research plan. But is your career development plan well articulated? Is your mentoring plan well defined? Does your personal statement effectively communicate your passion for science?
Avoid the common pitfalls associated with most first-time fellowship submissions by having your application reviewed by an experienced UGA faculty member BEFORE submitting it to the funding agency. Drs. Lee, Karls, and Moreno are freshly out of NIH, NSF and USDA fellowship review panels this month and will be offering their expertise to UGA grad students and postdocs currently working on fellowship applications.
Submission Guidelines: If your deadline for submission is looming, contact Dr. Lee ( mdlee@uga.edu) as soon as possible to schedule an urgent pre-review. For those of you who are working from a more relaxed deadline, you can submit your application by April 18 to biomed@uga.edu, along with a copy of your application materials and information regarding the agency and deadline.
