Tour Policy

Tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Please call to make an appointment at least one week in advance so that we can guarantee your spot on a tour.

To schedule an appointment, please call 706.542.5727. All tours start promptly at 12 p.m. (noon) from the Office for Academic Affairs, room 220, located in the Administrative Building of the College.

PLEASE NOTE: Your tour appointment is not scheduled/confirmed until a representative from the Office for Academic Affairs contacts you. This is important as the CVM is a secure-access facility, therefore self-guided tours are not allowed and we are unable to accommodate walk-in requests.

Tour Restrictions

The CVM Teaching Hospital is an active, working hospital and our patients are our top priority. Like patients in a human hospital, our patients are here because they need medical attention. Because of this, the tour is not a hands-on experience.

We are happy to provide tours for prospective students (i.e. high school; undergraduate, and post graduate). Tours are not available for middle school age students or younger. We recommend that middle school age students or younger visit the College during our annual Open House to get an idea about what veterinarians do. For further information concerning Open House, please contact our Educational Resource Center at 706.542.5384 or visit the ERC website.

Middle school age students or younger are encouraged to visit the following locations:

Limitations

Due to biosecurity, liability, patient confidentiality, and operational issues associated with operating a full service hospital, the following limitations are imperative and enforced at all times:

  • Group size is limited to a maximum of 20 people per tour
  • No photos or video are allowed to be taken in the hospital
  • Visitors must be accompanied by a tour guide at all times while in the hospital
  • Visitors are not allowed to touch the patients under any circumstances
  • Shouting, running, yelling, and disorderly conduct are prohibited

We reserve the right to exclude someone from a tour at any time.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend your scheduled tour please call 706.542.5727 as soon as possible (preferably 24 hours in advance) to reschedule.

If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled tour we will have to reschedule, as we have a limited number of people available to provide tours. Please plan ahead the time it takes to park and walk over to the College.

Parking

We strongly encourage car pooling as parking on campus can be difficult at times. Visitor parking is available in the Carlton Street Parking Deck.

Visit our directions page for detailed directions, including GPS coordinates, to the College and a map.

If the Carlton Street Deck is full when you arrive, visitor parking is also available in the South Campus Parking Deck. View the visitor parking map for details [PDF].

Once you have parked in the Carlton Street Deck, walk around the Coverdell Center and cross the street. Enter the College of Veterinary Medicine through the columned entrance. Take the first left and the Office for Academic Affairs is located on the left (room 220).
