The UGA Zoological Medicine service offers a full range of services for all species of exotic pets, wildlife (donation funds permitting), zoo and aquatic animals. Our staff includes two specialists, two residents, a registered veterinary technician, several assistants, and senior veterinary students on clinical rotation. We are the only clinical service in Georgia with recognized specialists in all exotic pet species.

We provide specialist care and treatment for all non-domesticated animals. We offer:

• Dedicated exotic animal receiving and ward areas
• The safest anesthetic protocols and sophisticated, modern monitoring equipment
• Digital radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, scintigraphy, CT and 3T/7T MRI
• Minimally-invasive endoscopic (key-hole) and microsurgical techniques to reduce pain and promote faster recovery
• Large pharmacy and modern therapeutic modalities, including vacuum-assisted wound closure, radiation and chemotherapy
• Full pathology and laboratory support services on-site

We see ANY exotic species, from albino ratsnakes to zebras! We also see primates, large carnivores, and venomous animals. In addition to seeing both first opinion and referral animals in the hospital, we also provide a visiting field service to aviaries, zoos, pet-shops, and other collections.

In addition to caring for injured wildlife, we also undertake clinical wildlife work and research with the free-ranging species in conjunction with various state and federal agencies. We are keen to foster collaborative projects and can assist field biologists and other researchers with animal care and use proposals, modern anesthesia techniques, biological sample collection, and surgery, including transmitter implantation.
