Ringhand and Rutledge promoted to named professorships

Two Georgia Law faculty members have been awarded endowed professorships. Lori A. Ringhand has been named a J. Alton Hosch Professor of Law, while Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge has been named the holder of the Herman E. Talmadge Chair of Law. Ringhand joined the Georgia Law faculty in the fall of 2008. She teaches courses on constitutional law, election law, and state and local government. HRutledge also joined Georgia Law in 2008. His teaching and research interests include international dispute resolution, arbitration, international business transactions and the Supreme Court.

Georgia Law recently finished as one of the top four teams in the country at the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition and placed as one of the top 10 teams in the world at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Representing Georgia Law at these tournaments were second-year law students Emily A. Cook, Nneka A. Egwuatu and Rory A. Weeks, and third-year law students Melissa L. Bailey, Jennifer L. Case and Hillary L. Chinigo, respectively.

Congratulations to third-year law student Emmanuel Azih for advancing to the fourth and final round of the 2012 Next Top Entrepreneur competition. He and his partner finished among the top five entries, out of more than 50, for their business idea "CarFetcher" during April.

Alumni reception and DSS award ceremony/breakfast during State Bar Annual Meeting

Come reconnect with Georgia Law alumni and friends during the State Bar of Georgia Annual Meeting. There will be a reception and breakfast on June 1 and 2, respectively. At the breakfast, which serves as the annual meeting of the Law School Association, the 2012 Distinguished Service Scroll Awards will also be presented. Pre-registration is required with the State Bar of Georgia at www.gabar.org.

Dean Rusk Center for International Law and Policy

The Dean Rusk Center was established in 1977 to expand the scope of international law and policy initiatives at the University of  Georgia School of Law. Today, the Rusk Center, which is housed in Rusk Hall on UGA’s North Campus, provides a forum for collaboration and debate on issues of global importance, administers international education programs, and sponsors law school outreach to diverse partners around the world.
