THE COMMUNITY GUIDE REGISTRY

The Community Guide Registry is a list of individuals who have satisfactorily completed all requirements of the University of Georgia’s Community Guide Certificate Program at the Institute on Human Development and Disability. These individuals can be hired as Community Guides by Georgians with developmental disabilities and/or families and representatives who choose to Self Direct their Medicaid services, under the NOW and COMP Waivers.

Self–Direction allows people with developmental disabilities to choose their own employees to provide necessary services and supports to live full lives in the community. This enables people to have more choice and direction in how, when, and who provides services and supports. There are many responsibilities when someone chooses to self-direct, including recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising employees, locating generic community resources, managing timesheets, and other tasks. The Community Guide can assist people with developmental disabilities and representatives with these various responsibilities of Self-Direction. 

The Community Guide Registry is being provided as a service to individuals with disabilities, families, or Support Coordinators who are interested in locating a Community Guide. Providing this list does not constitute approval of these Community Guides.  Information in this registry is compiled solely from information provided by the Community Guide to be published on this website, and has neither been verified nor guaranteed for accuracy.  You should complete interviews, review each individual’s background, previous employment, and complete thorough reference checks before hiring a Community Guide as an employee.
