6.      How do internships work in Fashion Merchandising?

Internships in the Fashion Merchandising Program are optional and competitive in nature.  Interested students must enroll in TXMI 5900: Internship Orientation fall semester of their Junior year.  As a part of this course the requirements and policies for the Internship Program are explained.  These include, but are not limited to, completion of prerequisite courses, maintaining a minimum GPA in the major and completion of an Internship Application Packet.  Following the University’s release of grades that fall semester, students are rejected or provisionally accepted into the Internship Program.  Full acceptance is granted after grades are released at the end of the spring semester prior to the actual internship.

Students arrange their internships with final approval of suitability given by the Internship Coordinator.  Students intern during summer semester.  Interns work for a minimum of 210-240 hours and complete assignments and employment evaluations.  It is worth 6 hours of TXMI 5910.  Internship sponsors may have additional requirements that Interns must meet.
