Fashion Merchandising prepares students for the apparel and textiles industries. The Global Soft Goods Merchandising emphasis adds an exciting global perspective. Students can study abroad in London, China, Japan, and Ghana. More information on careers.
Furnishings and Interiors focuses on residential interior design. Projects link students with industry partners in solving residential design problems. This program is accredited by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). More information on careers.
Masters programs include: merchandising, international trade, historic dress, textile science, and sustainable Interior environments. Ph.D. program are offered in Textile Sciences and in International Merchandising .

The faculty members in the department have teaching and research expertise in many areas: fashion merchandising, residential interior design, international apparel and texties retailing, international production and trade, global sourcing, international business practices, merchandising/international trade, textile science, and historic/cultural aspects of dress.

Fashioning Soft Goods Reception Photos
Fashioning Soft Goods – The Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation, Incorporated hosted a reception at the Georgia Center on the campus of the University of Georgia on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Industry professional with ties to the textile/apparel industry in the state of Georgia, students, staff, and faculty from the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors attended. The reception showcased the GSGEF and the great education things being accomplished in TMI at UGA in support of the soft goods industry. The GSGEF, Inc. has provide funding for professorships, scholarships, study abroad and other academic programs related to the soft goods industry. Buhler Yarns and Lectra sponsored the event.
The reception included tours of Dawson (couture a-al-cart, a historic dress exhibit, tours of the textile testing and CAD labs), a TXMI & Co. fashion show, and research presentation. The evening ended in Barrow Hall with tours of the furnishings and interiors studios and the Gold Crush exhibit in the Barrow Gallery.
