Careers in Consumer Economics

Graduates have a variety of career opportunities, often in business. Firms that sell goods or services recruit Consumer Economics majors for their knowledge of consumer decision-making and families. Consumer Economics majors find jobs in a variety of business settings.

Careers in Consumer Journalism

Graduates have a variety of career opportunities, often in business. Since the Consumer Journalism major allows each student to combine courses in a unique way, the job possibilities are diverse. UGA graduates majoring in Consumer Journalism have found employment in public relations for a child/family related organization such as the Children's Health Care of Atlanta and work in various forms of media including ESPN, CNN Sports, and Southern Living. Anne Byrn, a 1978 graduate, is well known as the author of the New York Times best-selling The Cake Mix Doctor and its sequel, Chocolate from the Cake Mix Doctor. A recent Consumer Journalism graduate is Jessica Hardin, who is an Event Planner at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in the Sport's Network Department. Another is Wendy Wolfenbarger, who is an editor of the Entertainment page at CNN.com. Lane Jordan is another recent graduate.
