In the 12-month period ending December 31, 2010 Georgia ranked second in the nation for personal bankruptcy filings. Nearly eight (7.92) of every 1000 Georgia households file for bankruptcy. Helping consumers to use credit wisely is the focus of preventive education. Extension also offers programs to help consumers improve credit scores, get out of debt, and rebuild credit after bankruptcy.

Free Credit Report!
Federal law entitles you to one free credit report from each credit reporting agency. Go to annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228. By state law, Georgia residents can get two additional copies from each agency. Contact the individual credit reporting agencies (linked below).

TIP: Rather than requesting copies all at once, spread them out across the year to more closely monitor them for accuracy. Click on a link below.

Your Good Credit bill will help you to understand the information found in your credit report, how that imformation impacts your credit score, and how to improve your credit score.

How to Get Out of Debt
If you want to get out of debt, the first step is to assess your situation. Power Payments can help you to save money on finance charges and get out of debt faster if you're making at least the minimum payment on all your debts and aren't behind on any of your payments. Otherwise, you may want to talk with a professional financial counselor to learn about other options.
