UGA receives third round of donated trees from Select SustainablePlus Tree Trust
More than 150 new trees have been planted on the University of Georgia campus in the last few months as part of a $1 million commitment from Oconee County wholesale nursery Select Trees through their charitable entity Select SustainablePlus Tree Trust. In the third year of the donation, the trees are being planted this year in honor of internationally-renown horticulturist and former UGA faculty member Michael Dirr and his wife, Bonnie.

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia has a new collection—prominent works by African-American artists—donated by Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson. The couple will also fund an endowment to support a new curatorial position.

UGA researchers awarded $1.34 million USDA climate change grant
Researchers and an outreach specialist at the University of Georgia have been awarded a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture to identify and promote ways pine forests can be used to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The grant is part of a larger $20 million award being coordinated by the University of Florida, which is leading an 11-university consortium to conduct research, extension and outreach education about the potential for pine trees as a climate change solution.

Researchers to study anthropogenic drivers of rabies in vampire bats
Now, a team of researchers, led by associate professor Sonia Altizer of the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology, hopes to close these knowledge gaps with a $580,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a three-year study of rabies in vampire bats in Peru.
