Author Harriet Washington to discuss Deadly Monopolies at UGA Lecture
Acclaimed author Harriet A. Washington will visit the University of Georgia on April 4 to discuss her latest book Deadly Monopolies: The Shocking Corporate Takeover of Life Itself and the Consequences for Your Health and Our Medical Future. Her lecture will take place at 4 p.m. in room 248 of the Miller Learning Center.

In an emergency, minutes matter. With this knowledge, University of Georgia researchers developed a new method for determining where emergency vehicle stations should be located. The results of their work could improve ambulance response time for the 200 million Americans who dial 911 each year, according to the Federal Communications Commission.

College of Public Health to offer Ph.D. In epidemiology
The University of Georgia will become the first institution of higher education in the University System of Georgia to offer a doctoral degree in epidemiology after a move approved by the Board of Regents during its September meeting. The university's College of Public Health will start classes in fall 2012.

Dr. Toni Miles has been named the director of the University of Georgia's Institute of Gerontology in the College of Public Health, effective Aug. 1. Miles replaced Leonard Poon, who recently retired after serving as the Institute's director for 26 years.
