MVS Monthly is a monthly newsletter focused on student veteran specific issues, events, opportunities, and accomplishments. KSU Military & Veteran Services hopes that this publication will assist in creating a more inclusive and aware military and veteran community at KSU.

  • Military 2-Day Career Readiness Workshop and Employment Expo

    The GA Army National Guard in partnered with Kennesaw State University Military and Veteran Services and the Marietta Business Association to host a Military 2-Day Career Readiness Workshop and Employment Expo in June 2016. This 2-Day Expo took place in Marietta on Dobbins Air Reserve Base at the Clay National Guard Center's Armory.

    Day one of the event consisted of workshops focused on career readiness with breakfast and lunch provided. Sessions covered topics such as Transferable Skills, Resume Writing, Finding Employment Opportunities, Using LinkedIn, Interview Skills, and Dressed for Success. 

    The second day of the event hosted a career fair with many local companies present, all with positions to fill. This career Fair was open to any veteran or servivce member seeking employment and was a huge success. 

    We anticipate this beeing an annual event so look out for dates and times next spring.

    • “SHE SERVED” Exhibit Honors Women Veterans during Women's History Month

      Military and Veteran Services in partnership with The Women’s Resource Center unveiled an art exhibit to honor KSU's women who have served and our extended family of women veterans. This includes family and friends of all students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The exhibit included a mosaic created by submitted photos as well as oral history recordings of seven KSU's Women Veterans.

      The unveiling reception on March 1, 2016 included guest speaker Major General (Retired) Maria Britt who provided very insightful words from her own military experiences. Major General Britt encouraging women to build each other up and to keep breaking down gender barriers. The exhibit was so well received, it is expected to become an annual event.       • The Spring 2016 Military and Veteran Resource Fair & BBQ

        Held April 27, 2016 on the KSU Marietta Campus, this all-day event was both fun and beneficial for KSU's Military and Veteran students. The festivities included outdoor games, contests, giveaways, and grilling. There there was a diverse group of veteran specific resources and Veteran Service Organizations available to help those who attented.

        We truly appreciate the community participation. We were pleased to have the American Legion, Beyond Limits Equine Therapy Stable, Blumsack Family Chiropractic, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Edward Jones Financial Advising, Four Block Veteran Career Developement, GA Department of Labor, The Goodwill Career Center, Kennesaw Grand Prix Charity Racing, KSU's Counseling and Psychological Services, and The Marietta Vet Center just to name a few.

        • Purple Heart University Proclamation Signing

          On April 21, 2016 Kennesaw State University became the first public institution in Georgia to be declared a Purple Heart University. This was made official with the signature of University President, Daniel Papp Ph.D. This distinction is a demonstration of Kennesaw State University's commitment to military service members both past and present. The signing ceremony was held on the Kennesaw Campus Green with guest speaker Commanding General of the Georgia Army National Guard, Brigadier General Thomas Carden. 

          The signing ceremony also included the rededication of the JP Walsh memorial. 1st LT Christopher "JP" Walsh, a KSU Alumni, lost his life in defense of our nation on April 22, 2008 in Afghanistan. JP's parents and many Purple Heart recipients were in attendance.

          • Author Book Signing :Veterans Scholarship FundFundraiser

            Barnes & Noble, Town Center Prado hosted a Book Signing featuring Kevin Horgan. Now an auther, Kevin Horgan served as an infantry officer in the USMC from 1979-1984.

            Two of the titles, which Kevin authored:The March of the Orphans and The March of the 18th were highlighted during the signing. Generously, 10% of the sale of his books were donated to the Kennesaw State University Veterans Scholarship Fund Veteran Scholarship Fund. This was a great event, which we plan to organize again.
