Our History

Maya History The Maya Heritage Community Project began as a class exercise where students and local Maya immigrants joined together to hold a conference on Maya history, language and culture.  Although the initial years focused on Georgia, by 2004 the Maya Project became increasingly national.  Among the larger projects have been four national conferences held at KSU, a four year highway safety program, the creation a national Maya Health Toolkit for Medical Providers and the construction of a Maya Interpreters Network.  The Project has developed partnerships with Maya communites througout the United States, and with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in Washington D.C.
