Tax Clinic Open House (with Food)

As you plan your course schedule for next term, consider enrolling in the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic. 

The Tax Clinic has been operating for over 22 years as a nationally recognized component of the College’s lawyer skills development program. It is designed to assist students transition from the traditional law school classes to the active practice of law. The Clinic assists students develop essential skills needed after graduation. Student are assigned their own cases, which involve representation of low-income taxpayers who have disputes with the IRS. Most students who enroll in the Clinic do not intend to practice tax law. The Clinic is not designed to be a tax course nor is it intended to provide substantial litigation training; however, students who work in the clinic will prepare briefs that are submitted to the IRS's Office of Chief Counsel, Appeals Division, and Collections Division.

Students work in an actual law-firm setting. They will interview clients, discuss matters with opposing counsel or others in the IRS, learn file maintenance skills, report their time, and engage in other typical activities of junior associate in a law firm. Employers have noted that students who take the Tax Clinic are well prepared to practice law.
