Anne TuckerAssistant Professor of Law
Anne Tucker, assistant professor of law, researches corporate law, recently focusing on issues related to individual investors. An example of her recent scholarship is her 2012 article “The Citizen Shareholder: Modernizing the Agency Paradigm to Reflect How and Why a Majority of Americans Invest in the Market,” which examines how investment in defined contribution plans, like 401(k)s, alters fundamental corporate law assumptions about shareholders.
Tucker also has written articles examining the tension between management authority and shareholder accountability, as well as examined corporate constitutional rights in the context of political speech. Collectively, her scholarship asks broad policy questions that examine the roles, rights and responsibilities of private corporations in society’s public spheres.
Tucker teaches Contracts and Corporations, as well as Unincorporated Business Associations, a course which combines both a doctrinal examination of default rules and experiential learning with negotiation and drafting. Additionally, she coordinates her research with the Investor Advocacy Clinic, funded by a FINRA grant and open to clients in 2013.
Prior to joining the College of Law, Tucker practiced corporate law with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. She also clerked for the Hon. Alice D. Bonner and the Hon. Elizabeth E. Long at Georgia's Business Court, a specialized court adjudicating high-dollar, complex, commercial and business litigation. While at the court, Tucker simultaneously served as the program director overseeing the initial development of the Business Court and writing about the role of specialized courts in modern civil jurisprudence.
Tucker received her J.D. magna cum laude at Indiana University, Bloomington-Maurer School of Law where she served as the senior managing editor of the Federal Communications Law Journal, the official journal of the Federal Communications Bar Association. She is a member of the Order of the Coif and earned the Public Interest Service Award. Before attending law school, she served as a Governor's Fellow for Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon. Tucker received her B.A. in political science and journalism at Butler University in Indianapolis.Anne Tucker
