Regina Stephenson
Adjunct ProfessorRegina Cannon Stephenson is an Assistant Federal Defender for the Federal Defender Program in Atlanta. From 2002-2009, she practiced in the trial division. Her responsibilities included representing individuals charged with various federal offenses including fraud, drug trafficking, violent crimes, and weapons-related offenses. In 2009, she became the Research and Writing Specialist. In this new position, she handles direct and habeas appeals to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and certiorari petitions to the United States Supreme Court. Prior to joining the Federal Defender Program in Atlanta, Ms. Stephenson was employed with the Federal Defender Programs in the Western District of Tennessee (Memphis) and the Northern District of Oklahoma (Tulsa). She has argued before the Sixth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal.
Ms. Stephenson received her B.A. in English and Political Science from the University of Oklahoma in 1988. In 1991, she earned her J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Following law school, she was employed as an Assistant Public Defender at the Oklahoma County Public Defender's Office in Oklahoma City. From 1991-1994, she tried more than thirty jury trials involving offenses ranging from misdemeanor violations to capital murder.
