Ronald W. BlasiMark and Evelyn Trammell Professor of Law and Director of Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic
Professor Ronald W. Blasi specializes in the field of federal taxation. He teaches courses on business and individual taxation, and he directs the Tax Clinic at the College of Law.
Professor Blasi joined the faculty in 1986 as associate professor after serving as associate professor of accounting and business law at the State University of New York at Buffalo and after practicing tax law for over ten years in New York City. He was promoted to the rank of tenured full professor and served the College as Associate Dean and as Acting Dean. He has chaired several College committees, including the Faculty Recruitment Committee, Honor Code Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Accreditation Committee, Awards Committee, etc. He was responsible for the formation of the College's Tax Clinic in 1992, which is recognized as one of the model tax clinics in the nation. Professor Blasi also served the University as Associate Provost for Faculty Relations.
Professor Blasi's publications deal with the federal taxation of financial institutions. He is the author of the annual CCH Bank Tax Guide, one of the leading treatises on the federal taxation of banks, and he has had several articles published on that topic in leading tax journals, including the Tax Lawyer and the Journal of Taxation.
Professor Blasi has served as an expert witness and as a consultant for several organizations, including the Internal Revenue Service, the New York State Legislative Tax Study Commission, and several private firms. He has provided instruction on the taxation of financial institutions to the Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, major accounting firms, and financial institutions. He has also served as chair of the American Bar Association Tax Section's Committee on Banking and Savings Institutions.
Professor Blasi has a JD degree from St. John's University College of Law, an LL.M. (taxation) degree from New York University Graduate School of Law, an Advanced Professional Certification (Accounting) from New York University Graduate School of Business Administration, and he has completed an Executive Business Program at the Harvard Business School.
