Intercultural Affairs (ICA) at the University of Georgia is defined as a shared community of engaged students, staff, and faculty that celebrates the similarities and complexities of various cultural and social groups. At UGA interculturalism is characterized by students and staff that foster holistic development by encouraging action-oriented awareness, learning, and the dynamic exchange of ideas among unique worldviews.
In support of the University of Georgia mission, the department of Intercultural Affairs contributes to a culturally rich campus through community building, advocacy, social justice and diversity education, cultural competence, leadership and the development of global citizens.
The University of Georgia’s Department of Intercultural Affairs will serve as the model for Interculturalism among land and sea grant institutions by defining and operationalizing services and programs which support the philosophy of interacting and blending of cultures. The programs, services and activities offered through Intercultural Affairs will promote student academic and social success, build a community of respect, understanding and inclusion; foster meaningful partnerships with faculty, staff and the local community for the betterment of the University of Georgia.
