Ways to Contribute to the Math Collaborative

The Columbus Regional Mathematics Collaborative subsists on grant funding and on financial support from area school systems.  This provides a stable budget that allows the Math Collaborative to provide extensive support, resources, and professional learning opportunities to local teachers of mathematics.  Private funding allows the Math Collaborative the ability to offer local mathematics teachers financial assistance to attend professional development workshops or to enable local students to attend one of the week-long summer math camps.

When you support the Math Collaborative, you support education, in general, and teachers of mathematics, specifically.  After all, where would we be without math?

Partnerships

Area school systems may purchase a fee package consisting of a specified number of workshop hours, classroom demonstration lessons, parent workshops, or other services. Systems may purchase a pre-set package or a build-your-own package to meet the individual system's needs.  Fee packages must be renewed annually.

Helen P. Purks Scholarship Fund

Helen Purks Collins was the founding director of the Columbus Regional Mathematics Collaborative and a former Brookstone School teacher.  Helen's dedication to mathematics and teaching extended well beyond her tenure at the Math Collaborative.  As a result, encouraging and guiding math teachers to become teacher leaders, in their own schools and among their own peers, is a principle the current Math Collaborative staff holds close to heart.  This fund was established in Helen's honor to offer financial assistance to math teachers to help them to participate in professional development opportunities they would not otherwise be able to afford.  Your donations will ensure local math teachers can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for years to come.

Ruby Tucker Fund for Excellence

Ruby Tucker is a former Muscogee County School District middle grades math teacher who absolutely loves mathematics.  (Just ask her about origami!)  Her enjoyment of teaching and her love for students far exceeds the time she spent in the classroom.  While Ruby is "retired" from teaching, she volunteers many hours with the Math Collaborative supporting our staff and helping to provide services to area teachers.  Her passion is working tirelessly with PRIME Camp (Positive Reinforcement in Math Education), a summer math camp for middle grades girls sponsored by the Math Collaborative.  This fund allows us to provide scholarships for girls who would benefit by attending PRIME Camp but who have financial needs.  Your donations will ensure that these funds remain available to middle grades students, particularly girls, to encourage their interest in and study of mathematics.

The Ruby Tucker Fund for Excellence also helps to support our Math Masters Middle School Math Contest.  Teams of students from area middle schools participate in this contest, working together to solve a series of math problems.  Once a problem is solved, they must explain their answer to a Master Teacher before advancing to the next problem.  Trophies are awarded to the three teams answering the most problems correctly.
