Art Alumna wins Top Kennedy Center Prize

Victoria Dugger (B.F.A. 2016) won the First Prize in the (Re)Invention exhibition presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the VSA Emerging Young Artists Program, a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program. This national art competition provided fifteen young artists with disabilities the opportunity to display their work in a year-long national touring exhibition. Victoria’s work Soft Machine 1, made from encaustic, nylon, and brick “confronts us with a duality of beauty and the grotesque through sculpture that heavily distorts the human body”. Victoria describes her work as “questioning the projected ideals of normalcy and majority”. Victoria recently accepted a position at the High Museum in Atlanta, GA.
