Recent Scholarship Recipients

Katherine Street
Nursing major and President's Emerging Global Scholar Katherine Street was awarded a Fulbright Summer Institute Award in 2013 to study in  Wales.  
  • 2016

    • Plamen Mavrov, (double major in International Affairs and Political Science and 2014 Honors Scholar) was named a 2016 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellow. He was one of 30 fellows selected from a nationwide application process. The award provides approximately $95,000 in tuition and benefits for fellows who intend to pursue a career as a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. State Department. Plamen is pursuing a master's degree in International Affairs at Georgia Tech. As a fellow, he will work for a member of Congress on international issues and overseas in a U.S. Embassy. Upon graduation, Rangel Scholars are offered a position as a U.S. diplomat.  

    • 2015

      • Sara Knapp, a Music Education major, President’s Emerging Global Scholar, and Honors Scholar, was awarded a Gilman Scholarship for summer travel to the Galapagos Islands, where she introduced Western wind instruments in schools. 

      • 2014

        • Alyssa Varhol, an Honors Psychology major and Honors Scholar, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. She researched language acquisition.
        • Katelyn King, a Music Performance major and Honors alumna, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Switzerland, where she worked on a project that blends poetry with percussion and projection or stage performance. 
        • 2013

          • Jiexi Liao, an Honors Biochemistry major, President’s Emerging Global Scholar, and Honors Scholar, was awarded a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program Scholarship to pursue her interest in conducting research in bio-molecular science.
          • Katherine Street, an Honors Nursing major, President’s Emerging Global Scholar, and prospective Honors Scholar, was awarded a Fulbright Commission Summer Institute Award to study in the U.K.
          • Michael Thomas, Honors Mathematics major, was named an Alliance Scholar by his Research Experience for Undergraduates faculty at Arizona State University.
          • 2012

            • Kristen Dunn, an Honors Biology major, President’s Emerging Global Scholar, and Honors Scholar, received an “Honorable Mention” in the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation competition.
            • 2011

              • Adam Strotman, an Honors Political Science major and Honors Scholar, received a Fulbright ETA Award to teach English in Korea for a year.
