Hi! My name is Leslie Hankey. I am a Communication Design Lecturer with a Master of Science in Information Design and Communication. I began teaching as an adjunct at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in January 2011. I became a temporary full-time lecturer in 2013-2014 and was offered a position as a full-time lecturer at Kennesaw State University (KSU) in January 2015.
My history: Soon after graduating from UGA with a BBA, I went to work for Oxford Industries, Inc. where I eventually rose to the position of Retail Group Manager. I enjoyed the exposure to clothing design, management, merchandising and advertising. After nine years with Oxford, I retired to focus on a large and lively family—at least for a time.
Offered a job in the Advancement Office at Whitefield Academy, I reentered the work force and served there as Advancement Assistant, Communications Assistant, Special Projects Coordinator, and Graphic Design Instructor. While working in these positions, I discovered a fascination for communication, information design, and new media arts, and so I entered the MSIDC program at SPSU.
I was offered the position of Graduate Teaching Assistant while in the graduate program, and I worked for Professor Jack Haley—a remarkable man and a remarkable experience!
I joined the faculty at SPSU to teach Foundations of Graphics. I have also taught Applied Graphics, Graphics in the Professions, History and Principles of Design and Project Portfolio. Our field is an exciting one as it changes rapidly in response to new technologies. I am delighted to be a member of the vibrant learning community we have at KSU.
