Ellis ’03 receives prestigious award from Cobb Chamber

Steven Ellis Steven Ellis ’03, president of the Kennesaw State University Alumni Association, recently received a prestigious award from the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce. Ellis was one of two recipients from the Cobb Young Professionals (CYP), a group within the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, to be honored with a 2017 Next Generation Award.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to have won this award. I am very grateful to everyone who nominated me and to the Cobb Young Professionals for selecting me for this honor,” said Ellis, who earned a Bachelor of Science in political science at KSU. “I look at all those who have won this award in years past as well as Leslie O'Neal, who was the female recipient this year, and am even more humbled. I am blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family who have supported me in my career.”

CYP is dedicated to promoting and encouraging young professionals in the workplace throughout the county. The Next Generation Award encompasses the essence of the group with the winners being recognized annually as outstanding leaders in their professions and the community. Ellis was selected from a pool of nominees in the 20-39 age range.

“I knew I had been nominated but I was pleasantly surprised I won,” Ellis said. “A great number of highly qualified young professionals were nominated for this award and it means so much to me that I was given the privilege of being named the winner this year out of such a talented field of nominees.

“Cobb County is home to many great young professionals who are doing great work in our community. I hope I will continue to live up to what this award signifies and continue to be a young professional that makes a positive difference in Cobb County.”

Ellis picked up his award at the Cobb Chamber’s First Monday Breakfast on Aug. 7 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Associated with CYP since 2013, he currently serves as assistant solicitor general and public affairs liaison, handling all media relations and governmental affairs, for the Cobb County Solicitor General’s Office.

Since 2010, Ellis has been a member of the KSU Alumni Association board of directors. He took over leadership of the board after holding the position of vice president from 2014-16. Additionally, Ellis presently is on the Political Science Advisory Board at Kennesaw State.

During his senior year of 2002-03 at KSU, Ellis was president of the Student Government Association and chosen as the Political Science Student of the Year. He went on to acquire his juris doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 2007.
