The mission of the African Studies Institute at the University of Georgia is to disseminate knowledge and information about Africa; its people, geography, cultures, languages, economic development, agriculture, education, and social structures. African Studies at The University of Georgia has evolved as an academic program of study since 1987, although current institute status dates back to 2001. The development of the program into the current international institute is a testament to the exceptional fortitude of the students, faculty, staff, and administrators associated with the program over the two decades. Today, the African Studies Institute has grown into the primary resource, program coordinating unit and information center on Africa for University of Georgia students, faculty, and staff as well as the larger community.
